FMP Proposal

1. A short explanation of what you’re researching? how you’re researching it? & why it is important to research this subject/ the relevance to your project proposal.?

The subject of my research is based on film editing. Film editing is an important part of film production. Very often film editing determines the rhythm of a film’s narrative, the audience’s emotions and so on, as well as realising the reconstructing of film time and space, adjusting the reasonable time and space relationship and sense of rhythm, extending or compressing time and space, thus making people and objects in a specific environment move accurately, vividly and richly changeable, adding more spirituality and brilliance to the film and television. Editing has a catalytic effect on film.

I will begin by researching the field of film editing on a broad scale and then find the points I want to focus on for further study. Currently want to start with:
1 – Editing and visual language: how the editor interprets the film through editing, how he or she handles the shots shot by the director, and how he or she communicates with the rest of the film crew
2 – Editing and emotion: how the editor conveys the emotion of the film through editing and how it resonates with the audience
3 – Editing and story structure: how editing moves the story forward and builds the narrative.

Editor:

Ralph Rosenblum

Walter Murch

Movie:

Bronenosets Potemkin Director:Sergei Eisenstein

Schindler’s List Director: Steven Spielberg

Editing for my discipline and project: from a disciplinary point of view, editing is part of film post-production along with vfx. In terms of my project, as the final presentation of the project I want to produce is in the form of a video, a good edit can really add something to the film. I thought I would take the time to write my thesis to gain a little bit of research and understanding of editing to help me with my project.

Summary/Reflection

During this semester, I have been introduced to the basics of Maya and nuke. Basically mastered the interface and common nodes of both pieces.

For the study of maya. Mainly low poly modelling. I am not very familiar with the application of many of the tools in maya, so I need to practice more, and I also need to have a better grasp of the details of the model, because when I do some models this semester, the comparison of those models seems to be very simple, but it also contains a lot of details of the scale. In the next semester, we should do more practical work with what we have learnt, and do some of our own creative work. What I have done well this semester is that I have been able to correct some of the models that I have made due to the incorrect procedure, but I have been able to do so calmly. It is still very important to keep a stable mind.

For nuke, this term also started from the basics. The application of nuke requires a strong logical mind. In the assignments for nuke this semester, first of all, I had fun doing the assignments because I found nuke very interesting. As far as the assignments are concerned, I dislike roto more, this is very boring. But it is also something you have to learn, so I did a bit of rough work in the roto lesson and need to be a bit more patient. Next semester I hope to apply my skills to practical projects, just like Maya.

WEEK009- Clean up

This week’s program is all about Finding the Difference.
This week’s focus is on clean up, changing some elements of a video using the rotopaint node and a few other base nodes. rotopaint is often used to erase wire in movies and TV shows.
